Bring the problem, not just the picture
A useful project conversation starts with what is not working. Perhaps the deck is too small for a table, the patio feels exposed, or the back door opens into a space nobody uses. Explain the frustration and the change you hope to make. Inspiration photos help, but the reason you like each image is more useful than a collection of unrelated styles.
Photograph the whole setting
Take a wide view of the back of the house, a view from the yard toward the home, and a view from the door you use most often. Add close-ups of existing work you want to discuss. For an interior renovation, show the room and its connections to adjacent spaces. Use the photo upload in our intake form to share these views together with your description.
Separate priorities from possibilities
Write down three essentials and a short list of optional features. A place for six people to dine might be essential; an outdoor refrigerator might be optional. This distinction makes scope discussions easier when the site or budget calls for a choice. If two household members have different priorities, bring both perspectives into the early conversation.
Share the information you already have
An available property survey, drawings, product preferences and association correspondence can all help identify questions for the next step. You do not need to invent dimensions or complete a design before reaching out. Note what is approximate and what has been measured. Include your intended investment range, preferred timing and any household needs that will affect access during the work.
