Review the exterior as a whole
When replacing a deck, compare the proposed railing, fascia and stairs with neighboring elements of the house. An updated product can change appearance even when the footprint stays the same. Gather current design requirements and product information before assuming a like-for-like replacement needs no review.
Plan for the level below
An elevated deck can affect a lower patio, walkout door or landscaped area. Show the underside and the route from the lower level in your photos. If a dry seating area below is important, define the water-management goal explicitly. Consider how posts, stairs and drainage will influence the lower space.

A clear description of the proposed change, photos of existing conditions and a plan of the footprint make the first conversation more useful. Include any association correspondence you already have.
